Win the night, win the day

1 Min Read – What on earth is happening to your sleep?

Winning the night is winning rest. While physically rest is about sleep and recovery, scripturally it is about faith.

Faith is how God works.

Hebrews 4:2 says “For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, NOT BEING MIXED WITH FAITH in those who heard it. For we who have believed do enter that rest..”

WHAT IS THE ATTACK AT NIGHT AFTER?

Some of the greatest attacks on our faith come at night. Double mindedness a feature weapon the serpent uses with Eve when he whispers, “Did God really say..?” (Gen 3:1)

Double mindedness hears multiple contradictory lines of thought and wavers between them. It produces someone who is undecided and unstable.

It targets who God says we are, who we believe God to be and what God has said, inviting us to agree with doubt not courage.

James 1:7-8  says, “.. the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.”

Recently we were sitting with an invitation from God which would require significant faith. God began to confirm his invitation to us through our intercessors and leadership.

But then over the space of 10 days, I was woken 3 times in the middle of the night with intense doubt. It came at the same time each night, around 2am.

The first time I was so surprised and apprehended by it. But when it happened again, I thought “This isn’t me. I’m not like that.

As soon as I heard myself say that, I realised this was an attack and it was spiritual because it had an intensity to it that emotion doesn’t.

Then I heard the Lord say to me, “Win the night, win the day.”

I noticed that the attack was angling at my confidence of faith in God and questioning His capacity to make good on what He had said.

I immediately reached for my keys. Within a week, the attack stopped and I got not only my sleep back but a deeper confidence and proof in the power and goodness of God.

From this moment decisions and forward movement in the day hours made in agreement and obedience to God’s invitation, began to flow and with great peace.

When we win the battle of the night, we win the day.

KEYS TO HOW TO WIN THE NIGHT:

  • Bind doubt and double mindedness, commanding it to be silent and go in Jesus name. Ask for heaven to open wider and release rest and faith over you, the night hours and your home.

“Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” Matthew 18:18

  • Recount literally, who God has been for you. This can be as simple as using your fingers to count out each thing you have seen God do in the last day or days.  A little aid like this helps the focus when it is 2am in the morning.

“When I remember You on my bed, I meditate on You in the night watches. Because You have been my help, Therefore in the shadow of Your wings I will rejoice.” Psalms 63:6,7

“And they have defeated him by the blood of the Lamb and by their testimony..”Revelation 12:11

  • Choose thankfulness no matter what you feel. Both the Bible and research in Emotional Intelligence says thankfulness shifts us out from anxiety, depression, fear and many other big emotions that can make us feel powerless.

“Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise.” Psalm 100:4

Thankfulness attracts the presence of God and when we are aware of His presence, there is no double mindedness only complete rest. 1 moment in his presence settles what is not rested in us.
