Emotional intelligence and spiritual maturity are inseparable

We are in the midst of what is being called a “technological supercycle.”1.  No matter how we position ourselves, the mindbending, unprecendented juggernaut of change draws on some serious emotion. There is no doubt the world is unfolding faster than our nervous system can handle.

In the midst of this God is pulling on next level growth in His people. I see Him calling many to review and consideration around spiritual and emotional maturity. There is always a correlation between our emotional intelligence and our spiritual maturity.

How we show up in difficult situations reflects our awareness of God’s presence and awareness of ourselves. It has been said that “In the end, your life is no more than what you gave your attention to.”

Emotions are part of the human experience. They are not bad, and shouldn’t be ignored, but an aid that attempts to get our attention.

With every emotion is a thought. Our brains process messages through our senses. The substance of these messages highlight a need. Emotions tell us what we need and our choice of behavior follows.

Fear is always one emotion that wants our attention when we find ourselves standing in the deep waters of uncertainity. It is present at the center of that list of problematic behaviors and cultural issues.

To be human, is to feel fear. Fear is a big emotion for anyone gifted with the spiritual gifts of prophecy and discernment. What we do with it reflects our level of maturity especially spiritually.

Dr Brene Brown, researcher, says “All of the daring leaders we interviewed talked about experiencing many types of fear on a regular basis, which means the feeling fear is not the barrier. The true underlying obstacle to brave leadership is how we respond to our fear.”2.

Do you know when you are in fear? Do you know what you believe when you are feeling fear? Do you know what you do when you are feeling fear?

Your feelings are your responsibility. Others feelings is their responsibility. Your spiritual life is also your responsibility. Excitingly God is wanting to upgrade you.

Your emotional intelligence and your spiritual maturity is inseparable.

“We had the privilege of having Helen lead a day of Living Courage. It blessed many and was a turning point in identifying what was holding us back in living in full abundance of what God has for us. She helped us to become aware of what is happening in today’s culture and how it can shut us down spiritually and bound us up emotionally. The day was engaging and fun. Helen shares from her own journey, and passionately offers the gold in which she has discovered in her walk with Christ.”
