There came a moment in the journey with Jesus when Peter, James and John knew tameness was not an option with Jesus.
They had just watched the appearance of Jesus “dramatically altered. A radiant light as bright as the sun poured from His face. And His clothing became luminescent-dazzling like lightning. He was transfigured before their very eyes.” (Matthew 17:2)
And they fell on their faces in dread. They experienced awe.
Research has discovered that awe is ESSENTIAL to the human experience.
It was for these three followers of Jesus. Jesus just got a whole lot bigger in the eyes of their perception and the eyes of their experience.
Tameness is not an option with Jesus. Lucy Pevensie discovered this with Aslan and so did Peter, James and John. And must we.
It is essential that we are overwhelmed by greatness. Essential.
Of the three men in this experience with Jesus, two of them where Jesus’ brothers.
Familiarity is a great killer of the truth of a person.
Awe is one of our most spiritually significant emotions and experiences. Awe is potent, because it shouts greatness. It shouts more. It reckons with our desire to tame God.
When we tame God, when we avoid His surprises, not only does God become small, so do we.
Awe inducing events has been discovered as one of the fastest and most powerful methods for personal change and growth. You see comfortable environments rarely lead to deep learning or growth.
Intimacy with God is the greatest adventure of discovering who He is.
The awe of intimacy with Him inspires as we see Him shine. Fascinated, transfixed by the presence of something overwhelmingly great and vibrantly alive.
We see it on top of a mountain. We experience it in a sunrise. We feel it in a masterpiece of musical genius, and we encounter it as we go deeper into Him, leaving us eternally longing for more.
Are you ready for Him to surprise you? Are you ready to be inspired, overwhelmed by His greatness? I believe we are on the verge of a whole new experience with the awe of God, and it will change the nations.
